A mermaid who won the heart of Raymond, Count of Poitiers, and married him on condition that she spend every Saturday in complete privacy. Breaking his vow, the Count spied on Melusine in her batch, and beheld her in the form of a woman combing her hair... but from the waist down, a sea serpent; the tail so great it touched the roof of her chamber.
